Did you know that Metro Manila is actually a shortened form of “Metropolitan Manila”? More formally, it is known as the National Capital Region (NCR), spanning 16 highly urbanized cities and one municipality.
According to the 2024 Census, Metro Manila is home to more than 14 million people, with a population density of 22,015 per square kilometer. This makes it the most densely populated region in the country! The main office of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is based here, along with the Regional Welfare Office (RWO) for the NCR.

Japanese Officials Visit Seafarers’ Welfare Center
Recently, a group of Japanese officials visited the OWWA Seafarers’ Welfare Center. In a Facebook post, OWWA RWO NCR reported that officials from the International Mariners Management Association of Japan (IMMAJ) came to the center on July 17, 2026 — a visit that strengthens partnerships for advancing the welfare and protection of Filipino seafarers.
During the visit, OWWA Administrator Atty. Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan, along with OWWA RWO NCR Director Ma. Teresa B. Capa, led the IMMAJ delegation on a tour of the Seafarers’ Welfare Center.

The OWWA Regional Welfare Office (RWO) in Metro Manila is dedicated to serving the needs and concerns of OFWs and their families, inside and outside the country. It also works with partner agencies like the Social Security System (SSS) in providing various social services to Filipinos.
