OWWA Launches OFW Global Center in Malaysia

APRIL 10, 2026 – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) launched the OFW Global Training Center on Friday, April 10, at 39 Jalan U Thant, Taman U Thant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This facility is the third OFW Global Center worldwide, after those in Hong Kong and Taipei. Its inauguration was led by Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela Abrera Ponce and OWWA Deputy Administrator Rosalia Susana Bahia-Catapang.

First OFW Global Center in Malaysia Launched

During the event, Ambassador Ponce urged Filipinos to take advantage of the OFW Global Center’s programs and services, according to Facebook post by the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia. She explained that continuous upskilling not only widens their opportunities, but also enables them to achieve secure and fulfilling futures for themselves and their loved ones.

The Ambassador also thanked Labor Attaché Jocelyn Ortega, and Welfare Officer Rosanna Siray, who oversees programs and operations at the center.

For her part, OWWA Deputy Administrator Bahia-Catapang mentioned that the center was envisioned by OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.

At the OFW Global Center, OFWs can apply for OWWA membership renewal, get an OWWA e-Card, and join various upskilling and training programs. It is designed as a place for “learning, connection, and well-being,” where OFWs can spend their rest days productively.

The center features training rooms, a bread and pastry room for livelihood training, and an IT laboratory for digital skills development. It also has a recreation room and library where OFWs can relax, and Migrant’s Brew, which serves free coffee!

The launching of the OFW Global Center was attended by Consul General Roussel Reyes, Vice Consul Kirstoff Ocampo, Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Col. Michael Lugtu, and Police Attaché Col. Excelso Lazaga, Jr. Members of the Filipino community in Malaysia also joined the event.

Notably, the blessing of the center was led by Fr. Gerard Steve Theraviam, the Parish Priest at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, in Kuala Lumpur.
